Bambusa burmanica (Burma Bamboo)

 

This bamboo from Burma and Thailand features lots of large leaves.  When young it is a rather bushy bamboo, with some thorny lower branches.  It can provide privacy or be used as an attractive ornamental.   As it matures, it develops large, strong canes, which are almost solid and can be used in construction.

Bambusa chungii (Tropical Blue Bamboo)  

A  rare bamboo from Southern China, the culms develop a powder-like waxy "bloom" which give them an elegant, soft blue color.  This is a medium tight clumper and requires a little more room in the garden than some of the tight clumpers.  This is one of our favorites.

Bambusa chungii Barbellata (Baby Blue Bamboo)

Similar in growth form to B. chungii, but slightly smaller.  This bamboo also develops a powder-like "bloom" on the canes, which give them an elegant, soft blue color.

Bambusa dolichomerithalla Silverstripe  

 

Very attractive dark green culms with occasional silvery-white stripes.  Culms can turn a soft yellow color with sunlight and age.

Bambusa emeiensis flavidorivens  

This rare bamboo promises to be a great hit.  It is a tight clumber, very erect, and branchless near the ground.  It goes through wonderful transformations of color and striping, with canes that are light green with dark green stripes, yellow with green stripes, dark green canes with light green stripes, and even reddish-yellow canes, ALL IN THE SAME PLANT !

Bambusa emeiensis viridiflavus  

One of the most unusual Bambusas, it has bright yellow stripes alternating on each side of the culm from one internode to the next.  It has an erect growth form with attractive foliage.  Can be used as a stand alone ornamental or an elegant hedge or privacy screen.

Bambusa eutuldoides viridi-vittata (Asian Lemon Bamboo)  

 

This is a new import from China.  It has beautiful yellow canes with occasional green striping and some occasional variegation in the leaves.  It has a vertical growth form with low branching.  It makes a stunning ornamental.

Somewhat similar in growth form to a textilis, this fast growing bamboo has an erect growth pattern with dense foliage and dark green leaves.  Often overlooked by landscapers, this is becoming one of our favorite selections for a large hedge or privacy screen.

Bambusa pervariabilis viridistriata (Sunburst Bamboo)

 

This is an outstanding ornamental bamboo, with lemon-yellow canes accented by dark green stripes.  It is fast growing.  Unlike other bamboos, it tends to continue to branch low, even when mature.  This is rapidly becoming a popular landscape specimen.

Bambusa tulda striata (Imperial Bamboo)

A very tall and erect bamboo with occasional yellow and green striped internodes.  This bamboo is a rather open clumper, so it requires a little more space than a tight clumper.  The bottom half is branchless, showing off the ornamental canes.  A stunning bamboo, typically used as a stand alone ornamental.  It can also be planted in groups and thinned to created a wonderful grove effect.

A more robust grower than the Buddha Belly Bamboo, this bamboo can be a very impressive  and very large clump.  Be sure to give this one lots of room to grow.  It has thick-walled canes and produces a white waxy bloom on the new canes.
